LAMAR COUNTY (Nov. 8, 2018) — Steven Utroska has officially declared his candidacy for the Mississippi State House of Representatives for District 101. District 101 encompasses north Lamar County including parts of West Hattiesburg, the Town of Sumrall and the Oak Grove, Oloh, and Hickory Grove communities. The district is currently represented by Brad Touchstone, who will be stepping down after his election to County Court Judge on Tuesday November 6.
Utroska is a professional engineer with the private consulting firm, Environmental Management Services, Inc. in Bellevue. He is married to his wife of nearly six years, April, who is an operating room nurse at Merit Health Wesley. Utroska and his wife have two young children, Asher and Adeline. They are active members at Temple Baptist Church. Utroska is a member of Pinebelt Young Professionals, Rotary Club of Hattiesburg, and the Lamar County Republican Party.
As a small business owner, Utroska is an advocate for business development and economic growth in Lamar County. “I am a proud 4th generation Mississippian, and I am dedicated to ensuring that Lamar County continues to prosper so that my children will have the opportunity to stay and raise their own families here in the Pine Belt”, Utroska said.
Utroska stated that “Lamar County is a special place to live. Over the last six years Lamar County is only one of six counties in Mississippi to gain in population. It is a special place because we are the number one county in Mississippi for high school graduation and we have one of the top ranked school systems in Mississippi. Our community is home to some of the state’s brightest doctors and educators that work at our two major area hospital systems and universities. Lamar County is a special place to live, and as your state representative I will to do everything in my power to keep it that way.”
Utroska is sharing his personal cell phone number and email with everyone. “I believe that being a representative means being accessible to the constituents of the district and that means being available to speak with everyone. I look forward to kicking off the campaign and speaking with members of our community about making sure that Lamar County remains a great place to live.”
